Hunger is a serious obstacle to learning. Students who don’t get enough to eat lack focus, earn poorer grades than their well-fed peers and have a harder time staying in school. Daily hunger can impair education and, consequently, an entire life. To combat this, ARAHA has a school lunch program–all children who attend certain schools in the Horn region will be guaranteed a full meal during the course of their school day. This has the triple benefit of alleviating hunger for children living in poverty, ensuring that the students maintain their focus in class, and providing an incentive for children to stay in school for longer periods of time.
