Build your legacy with ARAHA
“A bequest is the act of giving or leaving property to another through the last will and testament. Generally, any contribution of income (or property in kind) to a beneficiary is an allowable deduction to the estate and is includible in the beneficiary’s gross income to the extent of the estate’s distributable net income.” – The Internal Revenue Service
Leaving a bequest in your will has many benefits. It enables you to commit a portion of your income to good causes without compromising your family’s current financial needs, and it ensures that you help leave the world a better place. Bequests can also be a confidential way to give for those who wish to keep their donation wishes private. When you include a bequest to ARAHA in your will, you can be certain that your money will be helping to finance a good cause, whether it’s sponsoring an orphan’s needs, paying for a refugee student to attend school, or digging a well that will benefit hundreds of people for many years. You can create a bequest by simply adding a paragraph of instructions to your will that specifies how you would like a portion of your finances to be spent.
An example may read:
“I give, devise, and bequeath _______ [dollar amount, property, or percentage donated] to the American Relief Agency for the Horn of Africa (ARAHA) or its successor organization, a nonprofit organization as described in section 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code, with headquarters located at 3900 Jackson Street Northeast, Suite #10, Columbia Heights, MN 55421, to be used for delivering essentials and developing opportunities for those who live in the Horn of Africa.”
Your bequest may be in the form of cash, real estate, or other assets. Donors should have an attorney review their bequests and ensure that the instructions are unambiguous and that the correct wording has been selected for the type of bequest and funding that is chosen.
Thank you for considering ARAHA in your long-term plans.
